The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet on Thursday approved a series of major policy decisions aimed at accelerating infrastructure development, boosting employment, strengthening healthcare and attracting investments across sectors.
The Cabinet also approved several initiatives to speed up capital city development. Administrative sanction was granted for Rs 547 crore worth of external development works at the High Court complex, while Rs 94.9 crore was approved for advanced facilities and home automation systems in residential quarters meant for All India Services officers. An eight-acre land allotment for an international convention centre in Amaravati was also cleared.
In a significant relief for rural households, the Cabinet approved implementation of the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Aajeevika Mission (Gramin) from July 1, 2026. The scheme increases guaranteed employment from 100 days to 125 days annually, providing an additional income of around ₹7,675 per family. The programme will be funded jointly by the Centre and the State in a 60:40 ratio.
The Cabinet approved the AP Aviation Policy 2026-31, targeting expansion of passenger and cargo traffic, development of new airports and waterdromes, and attracting investments in aerospace manufacturing and MRO facilities.
Among other decisions, the government approved the implementation of the Human Organs and Tissues Transplantation Act, establishment of Sri City International University in Tirupati district, allocation of ₹10 crore for International Yoga Day celebrations, and clearances for multiple solar, wind and industrial projects. The Cabinet also sanctioned posts for speedy disposal of Agri Gold-related cases and approved land allotments for infrastructure, tourism and industrial development projects across the state.
Amaravati Eye to become a star attraction
One of the most notable decisions was the approval for the construction of “Amaravati Eye”, a giant observation wheel on the banks of the Krishna River, modeled on iconic attractions such as the London Eye. The project will be developed on nearly six acres under the Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) model with a 30-year concession period. The government believes the project will emerge as a major tourism landmark and enhance Amaravati’s global profile.
