Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Ayyanna Patraudu took direct action on Tuesday by halting several overloaded vehicles near Narsipatnam in Anakapalli district, citing serious public safety concerns. The Speaker personally inspected the weight bills of the trucks and directed the police to seize those found violating transport regulations.
While speaking to the media at the site, Speaker Ayyana Patraudu expressed deep concern over the deteriorating condition of the Tallapalem bridge, warning that continued movement of overloaded vehicles could lead to a structural collapse.
“The Tallapalem bridge has already weakened due to excessive stress caused by overloaded trucks. If this continues, it may collapse entirely. Public lives are at risk due to administrative negligence,” he stated.
He also pointed out that the main road between Makavarapalem and Tallapalem has been severely damaged due to the unchecked movement of overweight vehicles, making it nearly impassable in some stretches. “I myself stopped heavy trucks on the road and checked their weight documents. It is evident that transport norms are being blatantly flouted. I have instructed the police to seize such vehicles immediately,” he added.
He assured commuters and locals that he would escalate the matter to the government to ensure urgent repairs and preventive measures are implemented. “When the public is at risk, there can be no compromise. The government will be informed, and necessary action will be taken without delay,” he promised.
