AP raises upper age limit for non-uniform government jobs

The Andhra Pradesh government has announced a 10-year increase in the upper age limit for direct recruitment to non-uniform government posts, providing relief to thousands of unemployed aspirants who have been waiting for job notifications.

With the latest decision, the maximum age limit for general-category candidates for non-uniform government jobs has been raised from 34 to 44 years. The relaxation will apply to recruitments conducted by the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) as well as other government organisations.

According to the government orders, the additional 10-year age relaxation will be applicable only to job notifications issued up to September 30, 2027. The measure will therefore cover non-uniform government recruitments notified over the next year. For uniformed services, however, the government has provided only a two-year increase in the upper age limit for the general category.

The existing age relaxations available to SC, ST, BC and EWS candidates under the Andhra Pradesh State and Subordinate Service Rules, 1996 will continue, the government clarified. Accordingly, eligible candidates from these categories will be entitled to the existing additional relaxation, including five years where applicable, over and above the revised upper age limit.

The 10-year relaxation will not apply to all government posts. Posts in uniformed services such as police, excise, fire, prisons, forest and transport departments, as well as jobs requiring specified physical standards, have been excluded from the benefit. Officials advised aspirants to carefully check the eligibility and age criteria specified in individual recruitment notifications before applying.

The decision follows repeated representations from unemployed youth who had expressed concern that the prolonged absence of government job notifications was causing them to cross the existing upper age limit. Aspirants had urged Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Education Minister Nara Lokesh to increase the age limit. The government considered their requests and took the decision after discussions with officials. The move has been welcomed by unemployed aspirants, who expressed gratitude to the government for responding to their demand.
