340 apprehended in Cyberabad drunk-driving checks

Cyberabad Traffic Police conducted a special weekend enforcement drive against drunk driving, apprehending 340 offenders across its jurisdiction. The intensive checks were carried out as part of ongoing efforts to curb road accidents and ensure public safety.

According to officials, two-wheeler riders accounted for the highest number of violations with 275 cases, followed by four-wheelers with 48 cases. The drive also booked 14 three-wheeler drivers and three heavy vehicle drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Based on Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels, 273 offenders were found with BAC between 35 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. Another 46 drivers recorded BAC levels ranging from 201 mg/100 ml to 300 mg/100 ml, while 21 offenders were found to have dangerously high BAC levels between 301 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml. All apprehended offenders will be produced before the Hon’ble Court.

Cyberabad Police reiterated that drunk driving is a serious offence and warned of stringent action in case of fatal accidents. If a person driving in an intoxicated state causes death, they will be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, which carries a maximum punishment of 10 years’ imprisonment along with a fine.

Meanwhile, during the last week from January 26 to January 31, 2026, courts disposed of 257 drunk-driving cases. Of these, five offenders were sentenced to fine and jail, 12 were awarded fine along with social service, while 240 offenders were fined.
