This concert shows his plans of widening his horizon and embarking on ventures that are creative and interactive
The fans of Arijit Singh had lots to cheer as the man with a golden voice returned with renowned sitarist Anoushka Shankar, daughter of the legendary Pt. Ravi Shankar in a new musical avatar at the Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata. It may be noted that just a few days ago, Arijit Singh announced his retirement from playback singing.
Clad in a kurta, jacket, and jeans, his guitar slung across his shoulders and Anoushka Shankar in a brown and cream coloured costume enthralled the audiences with Bengali classics. Arijit joined Anoushka and popular percussionist Bickram Ghosh to sing ‘Maya bhora raati’, a Bengali classic originally sung by Lakshmi Shankar and composed by Pt. Ravi Shankar. He also spoke about visiting Anoushka at her home to compose a song together, before performing a duet with her — ‘Traces of you’, a track she co-created with international star Norah Jones.
Arijit Singh put to rest a lot of doubts on his career with this concert, as it shows his plans of widening his horizon and embarking on ventures that are creative and interactive. When he decided to stop playback singing, he was at the pinnacle of his career. He entered Hindi film music in 2011 and till date created a niche for himself.
Never to fall in line with the crowd, Arijit could have settled down in a comfort zone and get engulfed in Mumbai filmdom, but he chose otherwise. This concert is a new beginning in his second innings.
