Australian arrested after Thai teen’s body found in suitcase

An Australian man was arrested at Bangkok Airport for the alleged murder of a Thai girl whose body was found in a suitcase near Pattaya, police said.

The 46-year-old was detained at 9.30pm on Friday while preparing to board a Jetstar flight to Perth. 

Police said CCTV footage allegedly showed him entering an apartment with the 17-year-old girl early on Thursday and leaving carrying a black suitcase.

The girl’s body was discovered on Friday near a railway track behind Pattaya’s Floating Market, bearing signs of violence. The suspect denies involvement.

Police said postmortem report was awaited and evidence before filing charges, which could include child abduction, mur­der and concealment of a body. —AP
