A major controversy has erupted in Nalgonda district after election ballot papers were discovered dumped in a drainage canal. The papers, related to the Chillakur Mandal Chintawari Gudem Gram Panchayat election, reportedly included the symbol of the ‘Katera Gurkha party’.
The incident caused a stir, leading election officials and police to file a complaint against the state president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
The State Election Commission (SEC) immediately took the matter seriously and ordered an investigation. Nalgonda Collector Jaya Tripathi was directed to take strict action against all staff responsible for the security lapse.
In connection with the incident, the SEC has already suspended the Chief Electoral Officer, Stage-2.
An investigation is underway to determine how the sensitive election material ended up discarded.
