Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar launched a scathing attack on the Telangana government over the recent Education Commission report, demanding that it be “thrown in the dustbin”. Calling the report 'shameful and unilateral', Sanjay alleged that it was prepared in air-conditioned rooms without consulting stakeholders. “Even the dustbin would feel insulted by this report.
Take it and throw it in the river”, he remarked, accusing the panel of lacking ethics and failing to understand ground realities. He expressed concern over the reported recommendation to raise passing marks from 35 to 45, warning that such a move would severely affect poor students and increase school-level failures, depriving many of higher education opportunities. He further claimed that the report was aimed at hurting the sentiments of teachers.
Sanjay alleged that the education system in Telangana had “completely collapsed”, pointing out the absence of an Education Minister for the past two years. Highlighting issues such as teacher shortages, lack of basic facilities, rising dropout rates, and unaffordable private school fees, he said the hopes of poor students remain unfulfilled.
He also criticized the government for not clearing DA arrears of employees and pending retirement benefits of teachers. Questioning the panel’s credibility, he claimed there were no educationists or experts in the Commission and no consultations with students, parents or teachers. Referring to Finland country as a global model in education, Sanjay noted that teachers there receive the highest salaries. “How will reducing teachers’ salaries improve the education system?” he questioned.
