A court in Chattogram has granted permission for the questioning of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson for the Sanatani Jagaran Jote, at the jail gate in connection with a case involving an attack on police and vandalism of vehicles. The order was issued by Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate SM Alauddin on Monday.
According to Md Raihanul Wazed Chowdhury, assistant public prosecutor at the Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s court, the investigating officer's petition for questioning the suspect at the jail gate was approved.
This development comes after Chinmoy was previously granted permission for interrogation in two other cases on May 18. His legal troubles stem from multiple cases filed by police following a violent protest on November 26 of last year, as well as a case filed by the brother of deceased lawyer Alif.
Earlier, on May 6, a court had ordered Chinmoy's arrest in three police-filed cases related to the November 26 incident and Alif's brother's case. On May 5, he was also ordered arrested in connection with the murder case of lawyer Alif, following a request from the investigating officer.
The violent protest on November 26 occurred on the Chattogram court premises. Members of the Hindu community had gathered to protest after Chinmoy Krishna Brahmachari's bail plea in a sedition case was rejected, and he was ordered to jail. The protest escalated into a two-and-a-half-hour violent confrontation, during which police resorted to firing sound grenades to disperse the crowd and take Chinmoy into custody.
