The deadline for receiving nominations for the GHMC standing committee elections comes to an end on January 17. Seven Congress corporators and eight AIMIM corporators have filed nominations, ensuring unanimous elections for the standing committee. Prominent Congress nominations include Baba Fasiuddin (Rahmat Nagar), CN Reddy (Madhapur), Jagadishwar Goud (Hastinapur), Banothu Sujatha, Mahalakshmi Goud (Himayat Nagar), and Pushpa Nagesh (RC Puram). From AIMIM, eight corporators filed their nominations.

With seven Congress and eight AIMIM corporators in the 15-member standing committee, both parties have reached an agreement. However, the BJP has opted to stay away from the election due to a lack of majority strength. Two BRS corporators filed nominations but are planning to withdraw due to insufficient strength. The BJP’s decision to withdraw stems from their 41 corporators' hesitation to file nominations. The two BRS corporators who filed nominations are also likely to withdraw, leading to uncontested elections.

In GHMC, 15 standing committee members are elected annually from a total of 150 corporators. These members, alongside the mayor and deputy mayor, play a crucial role in administration and new project decisions.
