Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender launched a scathing attack on the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Sunday, accusing the main opposition party of politicising environmental crises like El Niño for political mileage.
Speaking to the media here, Nagender said that while the world was grappling with the impact of El Niño, BRS leaders had visited the Medigadda barrage on what he termed a “joy trip”. He alleged that the BRS was indulging in politics even over a crisis with serious implications.
Danam Nagender defended the Congress party’s track record in addressing Hyderabad’s chronic drinking water needs, stating that previous Congress administrations successfully brought 10 TMC of water to the city via the Godavari River and the Yellampally project.
In contrast, Danam Nagender targeted the previous BRS government over the failure of the ₹1 lakh-crore Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS), alleging that the collapsed project had failed to supply even a single TMC of water from Medigadda to meet the capital's drinking requirements.
Looking ahead, Danam Nagender reassured the people that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is executing a structured roadmap to secure the state capital’s long-term water supply, with plans underway to import an additional five TMC of drinking water by January 2027.
Shifting to national politics, the Khairatabad MLA accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of retaining power by illegally deleting voters' names in Bihar, West Bengal, and Uttar Pradesh
He urged the people and party supporters nationwide to join the upcoming "Chalo Delhi" mega-rally called by Rahul Gandhi at Ramlila Maidan on November 1 to protest electoral malpractices.
