The long-pending canal construction issue in Pedda Lingapur village of Sircilla district has finally been resolved, bringing relief to farmers from about 12 villages in the region. The state government has issued a sanction letter allocating more than Rs 3 crore for the canal works following the intervention of Telangana Rajyadhikara Party chief and MLC Teenmar Mallanna. Farmers said the problem had remained unresolved for several years despite repeated representations to authorities and local public representatives.

Farmers of the area had staged protests, hunger strikes and dharna camps demanding completion of the canal project, which they said was crucial for irrigation in their fields. They stated that their appeals to elected representatives earlier did not yield results.

According to local farmers, they later approached Teenmar Mallanna and explained their grievances. Mallanna visited the protest site, interacted with the farmers and spoke to Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy and senior officials, urging them to take immediate action on the issue.

Following the intervention, officials examined the matter and the government sanctioned funds for the canal works, which farmers hope will improve irrigation in the surrounding villages.

Welcoming the decision, farmers expressed gratitude and performed a milk abhishekam to Mallanna’s portrait. With assurances that the works would be taken up soon, the protesting farmers later called off their agitation.
