Criminal cases have been registered against nine persons for taking unauthorised water connections from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) pipeline. The action was taken by the Water Board’s vigilance wing following directions from Managing Director Ashok Reddy.
The violations were detected in the Seetharam Bagh area under the Red Hills low-level section of O&M Division No. 4. During the construction of a new road by the GHMC in the locality, the accused allegedly took advantage of the situation to draw illegal connections. Although each of the nine houses already had an authorised water connection, the residents reportedly installed a total of 15 additional illegal water connections without obtaining mandatory permissions from the Water Board.
After detecting the irregularities, the vigilance officials immediately removed the illegal connections and initiated legal action. Criminal cases were booked against all nine individuals involved in the unauthorised tapping of the pipeline.
The Water Board has warned that any person found taking illegal drinking water or sewerage connections without prior approval will face criminal prosecution. Officials also appealed to the public to report such violations to the Water Board’s vigilance wing. Information about illegal water or sewerage connections can be shared through the helpline numbers 9989998100 and 9989987135.
