The Union Finance Ministry has convened a special meeting on Monday to discuss the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the Polavaram-Banakacherla river link project . The AP government has planned to build the project at a cost of Rs 81,000 crores while the Telangana government is opposing this project. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu has already made it clear that about 2,000 TMC of Godavari water that is flowing into the sea can be utilized for this project.
He added that this project will also benefit the upper riparian state Telangana and made it clear that the AP government is not taking the water of any other state.The DPR has already been prepared explaining the advantages of this project. Details of the benefits of the project, water distribution policy, land acquisition and profits and losses to the people will be mentioned.
Andhra Pradesh Principal Finance Secretary Piyush Kumar, Water Resources Department Advisor Venkateswara Rao and Polavaram Chief Engineer Narasimha Murthy participated in the meeting and made a presentation to Union Finance Secretary Ajay Seth. Officials explained that the Polavaram Banakacharla project will be a self-financing project in the future. The objections raised by the Telangana government were also discussed in depth in this meeting. The AP government mentioned that this project would benefit the Rayalaseema region along with Prakasham and Nellore districts by diverting the surplus of Godavari river to those places.
