Over 30 inmates from the open-air prison will be employed in the project
In a bold leap toward progressive reform, the Telangana Prisons Department unveiled a one-of-a-kind Public Private Partnership (PPP) initiative at the Cherlapalli Prison Agriculture Colony this Saturday. Far from the usual image of a correctional facility, this new project blends innovation, community spirit, and rehabilitation into a vibrant, interactive experience for the public.
Launched by Dr. Jitender, Director General of Police, Telangana, the project is the brainchild of his vision and brought to life under the leadership of Dr. Soumya Mishra, Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services. He lauded Dr. Mishra for transforming the idea into a multifaceted platform where education meets entertainment—and both serve a greater social purpose.
At its heart, the initiative aims to be a hands-on learning hub for students, families, and curious visitors. From a serene Yoga Centre and a Mini Golf Court to an adrenaline-pumping Adventure Zone and immersive farm-to-plate experiences, the project offers something for everyone. Especially for the younger generation, it’s a chance to connect with nature and understand the importance of sustainable farming, food security, and environmental stewardship.
But the impact runs deeper. Over 30 inmates from the open-air prison will be employed in the project—earning fair wages, gaining new skills, and stepping onto the path of meaningful reintegration into society. Dr. Soumya Mishra emphasized that this is more than rehabilitation—it's transformation with dignity and purpose.
This visionary PPP model not only reimagines correctional spaces but also redefines community engagement, proving that true reform can be both inclusive and inspiring. It’s not just a project—it’s a movement toward a more compassionate and forward-thinking society.
