The GHMC in collaboration with the Entrepreneurship Cell (E-Cell) of IIT Hyderabad is organising the programme

In a landmark initiative, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is opening the doors of one of India’s premier institutions, IIT Hyderabad, to the children of the city’s sanitation workers. For the first time, students from Classes 6 to 10 will participate in a specially curated exposure visit to the IIT Hyderabad campus on January 31. The programme aims to broaden horizons and inspire children whose families quietly serve the city every day by keeping its streets clean.
More than a campus tour, the visit will include interactive sessions with IIT faculty and students, guided tours of academic buildings, libraries and innovation centres, and motivational programmes designed to spark curiosity, confidence and ambition. For many participants, this will be their first experience of a world-class academic institution. For families who rise before dawn to keep Hyderabad clean, the visit carries a powerful message: that their children’s aspirations matter and that excellence is within reach, irrespective of social or economic background.
The initiative reflects GHMC’s commitment to inclusive development and equal access to opportunity. It underlines the belief that every child deserves dignity, encouragement and exposure to quality learning environments. The programme is being organised in collaboration with the Entrepreneurship Cell (E-Cell) of IIT Hyderabad. Special arrangements have been made for transportation, food, safety and mentoring support to ensure a comfortable and enriching experience for all participants.
The initiative serves as a reminder that true cleanliness is not limited to streets alone, but also involves removing barriers to education, hope and social mobility—helping build brighter futures, one child at a time.
