12-Lane Highway and High-Speed Rail proposed
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy held a high-level meeting with South Central Railway (SCR) authorities to review ongoing and proposed railway projects in the state, emphasizing the urgent need for enhanced road and rail connectivity to drive Telangana’s economic and industrial growth. The Chief Minister made a strong appeal for the approval of critical infrastructure projects, including rapid connectivity between Hyderabad and Amaravati, a 12-lane greenfield highway from Bharat Future City to Bandar Port via Amaravati, and high-speed rail corridors linking Hyderabad to Chennai and Bengaluru.
During the meeting, Revanth Reddy reiterated Telangana’s commitment to fulfilling the assurances made under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, particularly the development of rapid road and rail connectivity between Hyderabad and Amaravati. He highlighted the state government’s proposal for a 12-lane greenfield highway spanning 300 kilometers from Bharat Future City to Bandar Port via Amaravati, for which alignment plans have already been prepared. This highway, coupled with a dedicated railway line, aims to enhance connectivity and facilitate exports, particularly for Telangana’s pharmaceutical, electronics, and food processing industries.
The Chief Minister urged railway officials to align their survey and planning efforts with the state’s greenfield highway proposals to ensure seamless integration of road and rail networks.
CM advocated for the expeditious approval of high-speed rail projects connecting Hyderabad to Chennai and Bengaluru. These rail corridors are expected to complement the greenfield highway and significantly reduce travel times between these metro cities, fostering economic integration and passenger convenience. Additionally, he stressed the importance of the Regional Ring Rail (RRR), a 362-kilometer railway network proposed to run parallel to the Regional Ring Road.
The Chief Minister proposed a special railway line to support Telangana’s industrial sector, particularly connecting Bharat Future City to Machilipatnam (Bandar) Port. This dedicated rail infrastructure, aligned with the greenfield highway, would extend up to 1.5 kilometers on both sides to form a robust industrial corridor. The state government has committed to providing necessary funds and facilitating land acquisition to expedite this project, ensuring it meets future industrial demands and supports exports of key products like medicines and electronics.
To promote balanced regional growth, Revanth Reddy called for the sanctioning of additional railway lines to Warangal, aiming to develop the city on par with Hyderabad. Specific proposals included a new railway route from Bhupalpally to Warangal and development works at Kazipet Junction to enhance passenger facilities.
The Chief Minister reviewed the progress of several pending railway projects, including the Vikarabad-Krishna new railway line and the Gadwal-Dornakal railway line, urging officials to complete the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and accelerate implementation.
CM assured the railway authorities of the state government’s full support, including financial assistance and land acquisition, to ensure the timely completion of these projects. He stressed the importance of aligning railway and highway plans with global standards, drawing inspiration from integrated road, rail, and port connectivity models in other countries to achieve robust economic growth.
The meeting was attended by South Central Railway General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, MP Kadiyam Kavya, CM Advisor Vem Narender Reddy, Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, Roads & Buildings Special Secretary Vikas Raj, CM Principal Secretary Srinivasa Raju, and Principal Secretary, Finance Sandeep Kumar Sultania among others.
