Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday instructed officials to modernise the power network after they informed him that Telangana’s energy requirement is estimated to reach nearly 32,000 MW by 2035, against the present 18,000 MW.

Reddy, who held a review meeting on Energy, asked the officials to prepare plans for solar power generation on the 160 KM stretch on the Outer Ring Road here and examine the feasibility for the same on footpaths and Nalas within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits.

The officials of the Energy department briefed Reddy that the power demand reached a record high of 17,162 MW this year, 9 per cent up compared to last year, an official release said. The officials explained to him that quality power is being provided without any interruption. The authorities also informed Reddy about the development of advanced infrastructure to ensure quality power supply, as Hyderabad is emerging as a hub for data centres.

Reddy asked the officials to coordinate with HMDA (Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority) on the energy requirements of radial roads and satellite townships to be built within the Regional Ring Road, besides upgrading substations, according to the power demand at the field level. "Officials have been asked to focus on modernising the power supply network. An underground power supply system should be established in Future City," the release said, quoting Reddy.

There should be no electricity towers, poles, or overhead power lines in the area. High-tension lines must also be removed, it said. Smart poles will be set up on an experimental basis within the Greater Hyderabad limit, the release added. Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka, Energy Department Principal Secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania, Special Secretary to CM Ajit Reddy, Transco CMD Krishna Bhaskar, SPDCL CMD Musharraf Ali, and TGREDCO MD Anil took part in the meeting.
