Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday sanctioned financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to Shiva, popularly known as “Tank Bund Shiva,” in recognition of his service for the last 27 years by rescuing more than 100 people from drowning and retrieving over 1,000 bodies.
The Chief Minister handed over a Home Guard appointment letter to Shiva’s son, Venumadhav. He also agreed to examine Shiva’s request for the construction of a swimming pool near Tank Bund to create livelihood opportunities.
Officials said the assistance was extended after the Chief Minister learned about Shiva’s financial difficulties and lack of a stable livelihood. Expressing gratitude, Shiva and his family thanked the government for recognizing his service and extending support during a difficult period.
Although many in the city had heard of his efforts, real support had been absent, until this intervention. In addition, procedures are underway to sanction a double‑bedroom government house for the family, another promise aimed at providing secure shelter for years to come.
“The financial aid means everything to us, stability, dignity, and a chance to live without fear,” he said. Shiva also expressed hope for the promised swimming pool project. “If that becomes reality, I see a future where I can continue saving lives in a secure way while earning a livelihood,” he added.
Shiva’s son, Venumadhav, echoed this sense of renewed purpose, “Receiving the Home Guard appointment letter gave me hope after years of uncertainty. I plan to work sincerely and support my family. I’ve always watched my father stand tall in difficult times, and I’m inspired to follow his path of helping others.”
