Kondareddypally, a quiet village in Telangana and native place of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, has become South India’s first fully solar-powered village. This milestone under the state’s green energy mission showcases a major step in India’s renewable energy journey.

With a budget of Rs. 10.53 crore, the project powers 514 homes and 11 government buildings in Vangoor Mandal, Nagarkurnool district. Currently, 480 homes have 3 KW rooftop solar panels, and public buildings run on 60 KW units. The remaining 34 homes will be connected once housing is completed. Each household generates about 360 units monthly, ensuring 24/7 power and zero electricity bills.

Beyond self-sufficiency, Kondareddypally earns by exporting surplus energy at Rs. 5.25/unit. In September alone, the village sold one lakh units, earning nearly Rs. 5 lakh—turning villagers into green entrepreneurs. The initiative was driven by government support, corporate CSR (Rs. 4.09 crore from Premier Energies), central subsidy (Rs. 3.56 crore), and Rs. 2.59 crore in infrastructure—all coordinated by TGREDCO with strong local involvement. Officials now hail Kondareddypally as a model solar village where clean energy and rural life coexist seamlessly.
