Collector bats for water-efficient paddy farming

Metro India News | PEDDAPALLI : Peddapalli District Collector Koya Sri Harsha urged farmers to embrace water-efficient and modern cultivation practices in paddy farming to improve farm productivity, conserve water resources and promote sustainable agriculture. The Collector was speaking at the ‘Vari Varahalu’ farmers’ felicitation program, organized by Sow & Reap Climatech in Rangampally, Peddapalli. 

Farmers who adopted efficient water-management practices in paddy cultivation were recognized during the program and presented with incentive cheques of Rs. 500 per acre. The Collector appreciated Sow & Reap Climatech for its efforts to encourage farmers in Peddapalli and Karimnagar regions to adopt water-efficient paddy cultivation practices and assured the organization of the administration’s support in taking forward its biochar, biogas and agroforestry projects. 

District Agriculture Officer B. Srinivas encouraged farmers to adopt Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD), a scientific irrigation practice in which paddy fields are periodically allowed to dry before being irrigated again, instead of maintaining continuous standing water. Sow & Reap Climatech COO N. Muralidhar said the organization is working with farmers to demonstrate that water conservation and agricultural productivity can go hand in hand.
