An 8-month-old baby girl from Africa is recovering well after undergoing a complex heart surgery at Medicover Hospitals, Financial District. Baby Maiza was born with multiple heart defects that prevented blood from flowing normally to her lungs.  Following a comprehensive evaluation, the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery team led by Dr. Amol Gupta, Senior Consultant – Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon, along with Dr. Priyanka Patil, Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon, successfully performed a ‘bidirectional glenn’ procedure on July 14.

The surgery rerouted blood flow directly to the lungs, reducing the workload on the heart and significantly improving oxygen supply to the body. One of the major highlights of the procedure was that the baby was able to breathe on her own without requiring prolonged ventilator support. She made a steady recovery under the close supervision of the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) team and is now being discharged in stable condition.

Dr. Amol Gupta, Senior Consultant – Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon, Medicover Hospitals, Financial District advised parents not to ignore warning signs in infants such as bluish lips or fingertips, fast breathing, poor feeding, repeated chest infections, or failure to gain weight.  The successful outcome highlights Medicover Hospitals, Financial District's growing expertise in managing complex congenital heart diseases.
