BRS Working President K T Rama Rao launched a scathing attack on the Congress government, accusing it of betrayal and deception during its 22-month tenure.
He questioned how the ruling party could even ask the public for votes again when it had allegedly failed to deliver on a single major promise.
‘After 22 months of lies and empty promises, what moral ground does the Congress have to seek votes again?’ KTR asked in a statement released on Tuesday. He claimed that discontent among all sections of society is at an all-time high and that people are ready to reject the Congress in the upcoming elections.
Targeting the recent hike in RTC bus fares, KTR accused the government of masking its privatization agenda behind superficial welfare schemes. ‘They offer free bus rides for women, but double the fares for men and raise charges on children’s passes. This is the Congress’s idea of governance—deceit and doublespeak,’ he said.
He alleged that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s push for electric buses is nothing more than a move to hand over public transport to private players. ‘Why can’t the RTC Corporation buy and operate these EV buses themselves? Why hand them over to private contractors?’ he questioned, warning that such policies would financially burden middle-class families, especially in Hyderabad.
Recalling the 2023 Assembly elections where Hyderabad voted overwhelmingly for BRS, KTR said the Congress had failed to gain people’s trust then and has done nothing since to change that.
‘They haven't built new roads or even maintained existing ones. It’s been all talk, no action,’ he added.
He also slammed the Congress for reneging on key poll promises, including two lakh jobs in the first year, Rs 2,500 monthly support for women, and Rs 4,000 pensions for senior citizens. ‘Auto drivers, unemployed youth, and women, everyone has been let down,’ he said. Commenting on the Jubilee Hills cemetery row, KTR clarified that the previous BRS government had already allocated 125 acres each for Muslim and Christian burial grounds in 2022. He mocked the Congress for taking credit for allocating just 2,500 square yards of disputed land.
‘Instead of welfare gifts like during KCR’s time, the Revanth government offers people the 'gift' of hiked fares during festivals,’ KTR remarked sarcastically.
