Strategy, discussions on Local Body polls gain momentum

The ruling Congress Party has intensified preparations for the forthcoming Jubilee Hills Assembly bye-election, with the candidate selection process entering a decisive stage. After a series of deliberations, the party is said to be zeroing in on four key aspirants—former MP Anjan Kumar Yadav, former Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, young leader Naveen Yadav, and Corporator CS Reddy. The name of Ranjith Reddy is also doing the rounds within party circles.

A strategic meeting was held today at Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s residence, where TPCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud and Incharge Minister for Hyderabad Ponnam Prabhakar joined the Chief Minister in reviewing the Jubilee Hills contest alongside broader election strategies for the bypoll and local body polls.

With the Jubilee Hills seat being seen as a prestigious battle, today’s review between the Chief Minister, PCC chief, and senior ministers has set the stage for the party’s formal announcement of its candidate after the AICC screening committee meeting on October 6.

Sources indicate that the Chief Minister has directed leaders to fast-track the process and prepare a winning formula for both the bye-election and the local body polls scheduled soon.

This comes in continuation of a crucial brainstorming session held late Tuesday night at Minister Ponnam Prabhakar’s residence in the Ministers’ Quarters, where a large gathering of BC leaders convened. The meeting was attended by Ministers Konda Surekha, Vakati Srihari, senior leader V. Hanumantha Rao, Government Advisor K. Keshava Rao, Rajya Sabha MP Anil Kumar Yadav, Government Whips Aadi Srinivas and Beerla Ilayya, MLAs E Shankaraiah and Makkan Singh Raj Thakur, and Mineral Development Corporation Chairman Eravatri Anil, among others.

The leaders discussed strategies to maximize the Congress party’s reach in the upcoming local body elections, where 42% reservation for BCs has already been announced. Key deliberations focused on safeguarding these reservations in the wake of legal challenges, with the High Court scheduled to hear the matter on October 8. Leaders expressed confidence that the state would emerge victorious in court, citing the Tamil Nadu precedent that allows governments to implement reservation bills pending with the Governor or President beyond a three-month period.

Speaking at the meeting, senior leaders underlined that the Congress government is firmly committed to the upliftment of BCs and would proceed to elections with full confidence under the 42% quota framework.

BC Garjana after Dasara

The Congress Party is also preparing to mobilize Backward Class communities through the “BC Garjana”, scheduled to be organized soon after the Dasara festival in Kamareddy. This meeting will bring together leaders, activists, and grassroots workers from across the state to showcase the government’s commitment to BC empowerment. Party strategists believe this will serve as a platform to highlight welfare schemes, the recently implemented 42% BC reservations in local body polls, and the Congress government’s broader pro-BC agenda.

In the run-up to the rally, TPCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud is set to convene a series of preparatory meetings with BC leaders to finalize the program’s agenda and participation. The leadership aims to leverage the High Court’s upcoming October 8 hearing on reservations to further consolidate support among BC communities. By projecting the rally as a show of strength and unity, the Congress Party hopes to counter the opposition’s criticism and reinforce its image as the true champion of Backward Classes in Telangana.
