Congress to win all corporations, says Komatireddy

Minister for Roads and Buildings Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said the Congress government is committed to delivering welfare schemes to every poor household and ensuring comprehensive development of Nalgonda town. After exercising his vote in the Nalgonda Municipal Corporation elections on Wednesday, the Minister told reporters that the municipal polls are crucial for strengthening grassroots governance and expressed confidence that Congress candidates would secure a decisive mandate.

Targeting the previous BRS regime, he alleged that it had neglected welfare delivery and failed to issue new ration cards over the past decade. The Minister further said that Congress government has revitalised welfare implementation and prioritised education and infrastructure. He cited the sanction of ₹200 crore for new buildings at Mahatma Gandhi University and the approval of new Pharmacy courses as examples of the government’s commitment to higher education.

Stating that Nalgonda’s development remains his foremost priority, the Minister said he would “Repay the People’s Trust” through sustained infrastructure expansion. Komatireddy Venkat Reddy assured that he would stand by the poor at all times and address their concerns on priority.

Announcing a series of civic initiatives, he said Praja Darbars would be conducted in every division after the Mayor’s election to directly resolve public grievances through elected corporators. He revealed that 100 acres have been earmarked within the Corporation limits for housing projects, with plans to construct 4,000 Indiramma houses each on Devarakonda Road and Narketpally Road on 75-square-yard plots for the underprivileged.

Minister Komatireddy said development works worth several crores are already underway in the Corporation, while projects valued at ₹600 crore are in the tender stage. Underground drainage works are being implemented town-wide, colony parks are being upgraded, and the district library will be developed into a model facility. A modern Shadi Khana will be built at an estimated cost of ₹10 crore.

Expressing optimism over the ongoing urban local body polls across Telangana, the Minister said the Congress would win all seven municipal corporations and secure a majority in municipalities.

Hyderabad:  The ruling Congress party is poised for a sweeping victory in Telangana’s municipal elections, with exit polls by the "People’s Pulse" projecting a strong performance across municipalities and municipal corporations. On Wednesday, polling concluded for 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations. The elections witnessed a three-cornered contest between the ruling Congress and opposition BRS and BJP. Counting of votes is scheduled on February 13.

According to the People's Pulse survey, Congress is likely to capture nearly 70% of the 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations that went to polls, signaling a significant political shift in urban local bodies.  The party is expected to perform strongly in Mancherial, Ramagundam, Nalgonda, Mahabubnagar and Kothagudem municipal corporations. Meanwhile, the BJP is projected to emerge as the largest party in Karimnagar and Nizamabad corporations, where AIMIM may play a key kingmaker role. The exit poll suggests a major setback for the main opposition BRS, predicting that it may fail to secure control of any municipal corporation.
