Congress urges support in final phase of village polls

District Congress Committee (DCC) President Sanjeev Mudiraj on Tuesday said that holistic village development is possible only under a Congress government and appealed to voters to support Congress-backed candidates in the third and final phase of the sarpanch elections.

Addressing a press conference at the Congress party office in the district headquarters, Mudiraj said the party received encouraging results in the first two phases, with many Congress-supported candidates winning due to strong public support. He expressed confidence that voters would once again repose their faith in the Congress in the final phase to ensure continued rural development.

Referring to Rahul Gandhi’s vision of representation in proportion to population, Mudiraj said the Congress-led state government under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy passed a resolution in the Assembly proposing 42 per cent reservations for Backward Classes and forwarded it to the Centre. Though yet to be implemented nationally, he said the Congress has already adopted the 42 per cent reservation principle within the party. General seats were allotted to SCs, STs, BCs and minorities, and several candidates from these sections have been elected.

TPCC official spokesperson Zaheer Akhtar criticised Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over an alleged incident involving a Muslim woman during a public programme, terming it inappropriate and hurtful to minority sentiments, and demanded his resignation.

MUDA Chairman Lakshman Yadav, Market Committee Chairperson Bekkari Anita, and other party leaders were present.
