A road traffic accident that could have permanently altered—or even ended—a 41-year-old man’s life instead became a story of medical coordination, timely decisions, and recovery at Medicover Hospitals.

Ravi Goenka was brought to the emergency department after his two-wheeler was hit by a four-wheeler and he was run over, sustaining multiple severe injuries. Doctors diagnosed him with a complex fracture of the right hip socket (acetabulum), a fractured collarbone, multiple rib fractures with lung injury, and a spinal fracture.

The most challenging injury—the complex acetabular fracture—was managed surgically by Dr. Uday Krishna Myneni, Head of Department and Chief Consultant – Trauma & Robotic Joint Replacement. However, recovery took another critical turn days later when Goenka developed sudden breathlessness and giddiness at home.

Advanced imaging revealed an acute pulmonary embolism—a potentially fatal complication known to occur after major trauma and prolonged immobilisation.

The cardiology team led by Dr. Pramod Kumar Kuchulakanti acted swiftly, performing mechanical clot removal and placing an IVC filter to prevent further embolism.Today, Goenka has returned to walking independently, climbing stairs, and performing daily activities without support.
