State Sports Minister Vakiti Srihari on Sunday congratulated shooter Dhanush Srikanth for winning a gold medal at the Tokyo Deaflympics 2025 and announced an incentive of Rs 1.2 crore under the state’s sports policy. The minister inaugurated the new Telangana Sports School at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Hanumakonda on the same day.
Srihari said the Congress government has prioritised sports and stressed that discipline and focus are essential for success. Citing South Korea’s Olympic achievements, he urged students to reflect on the need for greater effort and commitment. He advised sports school students to avoid distractions like mobile phones and video games, and announced plans to increase job reservations for athletes who excel at national and international levels.
The minister said the Sports Authority of Telangana was proud to launch the school with 80 students for 2025–26. The sports policy aims to identify rural talent, nurture young athletes, and raise Telangana’s presence in national and international events. Srihari said modern stadiums and training centres were being established in all districts and announced the upcoming Young India Physical Education and Sports University.
He highlighted the Guru Vandanam scheme offering welfare measures and accident insurance for coaches. Sports kits were distributed at the event, attended by MLAs and senior officials.
