Distributors and producers also have challenges: Telugu film producers

Telugu film producers on Wednesday stated that not only exhibitors but distributors and producers are also facing serious challenges in the current theatrical ecosystem. This was in response to a recent press meet conducted by exhibitors demanding the implementation of the percentage system, claiming they are under severe financial pressure. Producers Yalamanchili Ravi Shankar, Suryadevara Naga Vamsi, Sahu Garapati, Sudhakar Cherukuri, Venkata Satish Kilaru and others participated in the media interaction.

The producers stated that while they are ready to address exhibitors’ concerns, the problems faced by distributors and producers must be equally considered. Producer Yalamanchili Ravi Shankar stated that none of the three sectors are truly comfortable. “All three sectors must sit together and discuss. These are not issues that can be solved overnight,” he mentioned.

Producer Suryadevara Naga Vamsi appealed to the exhibitors not to make make unilateral decisions and issue deadlines in a threatening tone.  He informed that there at least 25 films that have already crossed 50% of shooting completion and opined that introducing a new system is not practical at such a stage. Producer Sahu Garapati said that only when cinema runs successfully does the entire industry survive and called discussions to solve the problem Producer Sudhakar Cherukuri opined that it was not appropriate to say all of a sudden that injustice was happening.
