In a firm and emotional address in the Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed deep concern over the tragic stampede at Sandhya Theatre on December 4. He criticized the reckless behavior of the lead actor and the film unit that led to the loss of a life and left a young boy in a coma, emphasizing the need for responsibility and humanity in public conduct. It's unfortunate that none from film industry consoled the affected family, but many of them queued up to meet the actor after he got the bail.
He was responding to AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owais's query in Assembly on Saturday seeking clarification from government as there were several theories doing rounds outside.
Referring to the unfortunate death of Revathi, a mother who held her son’s hand until her last breath amidst the chaos, CM Reddy said, "A mother’s love is unparalleled. Even in the face of death, she held on to her child. This tragedy should serve as a stark reminder of the consequences of irresponsible actions."
The Chief Minister highlighted the sequence of events, pointing out that the hero and his entourage caused unnecessary disruption by opening the roof of their car for a roadshow. This led to sudden tension near the theater, causing chaos among the public and nearby theaters, he said
Despite the police advising against such actions, the hero and his team persisted, leading to chaos and stampede.
CM Revanth stated, "Cinema and celebrity culture do not grant anyone the right to endanger lives or disturb public peace. Our government operates under the Constitution created by Ambedkar, and no one is above the law."
Revanth slams politicos
The Chief Minister further called out political parties attempting to exploit the tragedy for political gains, saying, "Criticism of the government in such a tragic context is inhumane. Those responsible for this incident should face the law, and no amount of political rhetoric will change that." While reiterating the government's commitment to supporting the film industry, CM Revanth made it clear that public safety and humanity come first. He said, "We allow special shows and take steps to promote the film industry, but this does not mean lives can be taken lightly. Do business, entertain, but don't be inhumane." The Chief Minister assured the public that such incidents would not be tolerated under his leadership, and all necessary actions would be taken to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
