One week prior to a physical attack on him by a Psycho, Chilkur Sri Lord Balaji temple’s Chief Priest and well known Dr Rangarajan, participating as chief guest at a function held in Kondapur Sri Ramalingeswara Temple, spoke about the greatness of Composer and Vaggeyakara Sri Bhadrachalam Ramadasu and his Keerthanas. Citing Keerthanas, Dr Rangarajan said Ramadasu created these Keerthana in praise of Lord Sri Rama while serving a sentence in a Jail during the Golconda Nawab Tanisha’s time.
Dr Rangarajan asked the audience who sang Bhadrachalam Ramadasu Keerthanas, “Can you imagine a person serving sentence in a jail where he was repeatedly assaulted by the security personnel to write such lyrics in praise of Lord Rama, Seeetha, laxamana and Hanumantha? Ramadasu as a convict was subjected physical torture on a daily basis. One would come and lash him in the morning, another in the afternoon and the third one in the evening. Amidst this mental and physical torture Ramadasu created these wonderful Keerthana.
In one of the Keerthans, Ramnadasu, scolds Lord Rama and his family only to tender an unconditional apology to Lord Rama by saying,”Abba Thittithinani Ayasa Padaboku Ramachandra, Ne debbala Korvaka Abba Thitiithinayya Ramachandra” (Don’t get angry that I scolded you Ramachandra, I could not bear these lashes and hence I scolded you.
Dr Rangarajan spoke about how to maintain Bhakti towards the God even if some one is subjected to unjust physical and mental torture. Exactly after seven days, A madman attacked Dr Rangarajan both physically and mentally, but Rangarajan as he stated maintained a stoic silence and endured everything.
