Dubbak MLA seeks crackdown on belt shops

Dubbak MLA Kotha Prabhakar Reddy has urged the Prohibition and Excise Department officials to shut down all belt shops operating in villages across his constituency, citing rising liquor consumption and its impact on families.

During a review meeting with officials from various departments at Raipole on Tuesday, the BRS MLA said illegal liquor outlets were functioning throughout the day, leading to increased alcohol addiction among villagers. He expressed concern that youngsters were being exposed to liquor at an early age due to the easy availability of alcohol. Reddy said the widespread presence of belt shops was affecting the financial stability of several families, as many breadwinners were becoming addicted and neglecting their responsibilities. He appealed to officials to take strict action against such outlets and prevent the sale of liquor through unauthorised channels.

The MLA also called upon panchayat officials, sarpanches and villagers to work together to eliminate plastic usage in rural areas. He stressed the need for collective efforts to make villages plastic-free and improve environmental conditions.

During the meeting, Reddy reviewed pending road development works in the constituency. He alleged that the Congress government had failed to release funds for road repairs after coming to power, resulting in poor road conditions across Dubbak. He demanded immediate steps to restore damaged roads and complete pending projects.
