A total of 896 encroachments were removed across Hyderabad in a special enforcement drive conducted by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Saturday, as part of its ongoing effort to clear roads and improve traffic movement.

The special drive was carried out in all six GHMC zones in coordination with traffic and law-and-order police. Footpaths and road margins occupied by permanent and temporary structures were targeted, with one major road stretch identified in each zone for systematic clearance.

Of the total removals, 440 were permanent encroachments and 456 were temporary, bringing the combined figure to 896. With this, the cumulative number of encroachments removed in three special drives held on April 4, April 18, and April 25 has reached 2,337.

To ensure effective execution, the vigilance department coordinated with police, the engineering department arranged machinery and manpower, and the sanitation wing handled waste removal. The drive was monitored by the GHMC Commissioner, Chief City Planner, and Zonal Commissioners.

Key stretches covered included Adibatla, Santosh Nagar, Rajendranagar, Begum Bazar, SR Nagar to Ameerpet, and Tarnaka-Mettuguda.

GHMC appealed to citizens and shopkeepers not to occupy footpaths and roads, warning that unauthorized encroachments would be removed by the civic body.
