Metro India News | Hyderabad :

Seasonal fevers are on the rise across Hyderabad, even before winter sets in. Post-monsoon dry weather is triggering the spread of viruses like dengue, influenza, and chikungunya, warn doctors at Kamineni Hospitals.

Dr. M Swami, Head of General Medicine, noted that symptoms are presenting differently this year. In dengue cases, diarrhea now precedes fever and platelet drops. Influenza is also spreading rapidly, with five new cases reported weekly at the hospital. Stagnant water and fluctuating weather, combined with rising air pollution, are worsening conditions for those with allergies or chronic lung diseases.

Senior Consultant Physician Dr. Harikishan stressed the importance of prevention. ‘Get flu shots or quadrivalent vaccines early, as they offer 6 to 12 months of protection. Avoid crowded places, wear masks outdoors, and install air purifiers at home.’ He also emphasized drinking 6 to 8 glasses of boiled and cooled water, and avoiding outside food to prevent gastroenteritis.

Consultant Physicians Dr. Srikrishna Raghavendra and Dr. Pradeep Kumar Patel advised against self-medication. ‘People often delay proper diagnosis by using over-the-counter tablets like Dolo. Each fever requires specific tests and a treatment, so early consultation is key.’

To stay safe this fever season: get vaccinated, wear a mask, avoid street food, drink safe water, and seek medical help at the first sign of fever.
