The first six years of a child’s life are among the most crucial stages in shaping their future, said Radhika N. Acharya, Consultant Clinical Psychologist & Child Development Specialist at Medicover Women & Child Hospitals. She explained that the brain develops at an extraordinary pace during this period, forming more than one million neural connections every second. By the age of five, a child’s brain reaches approximately 90% of its adult size.

She highlighted that from birth to three years, children experience rapid development in language, sensory perception and emotional bonding.  Between the ages of three and six, important abilities such as memory, concentration and problem-solving skills continue to develop significantly. Emphasizing the importance of parental involvement, she stated that a child’s brain development depends more on the time, love and attention provided by parents than on expensive toys.  Radhika N. Acharya further emphasized that a family environment filled with love, security and encouragement provides a strong foundation for a child’s mental and emotional development.
