Paris: France is withdrawing the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle from West Asia after easing tensions between the US and Iran, President Emmanuel Macron announced on Friday.
The carrier is returning to its home port of Toulon after being deployed for a French and British-led maritime security mission in the Strait of Hormuz. Macron said an MoU between the US and Iran marked “significant progress” for regional stability.
However, French mine-clearance assets and escort vessels will remain in the region, ready to operate with partners if required, he added.
