After redefining comedy with Jathi Ratnalu, director K.V. Anudeep is returning to theatres with Funky, a romantic comedy starring “Mass Ka Das” Vishwak Sen and Kayaadu Lohar. Presented by Srikara Studios and produced by Suryadevara Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya under Sitara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas, the film features music by Bheems Ceciroleo. Releasing on February 13, ahead of Valentine’s Day, Funky has generated strong buzz with its teaser, trailer, and songs receiving positive response.

Explaining the title, Anudeep says Funky is catchy, contemporary, and perfectly reflects the hero’s character. Vishwak Sen plays a film director, a role Anudeep felt only Vishwak could do justice to, citing his impeccable comic timing in Ee Nagaraniki Emaindi.

Unlike Jathi Ratnalu, Funky is a full-fledged romantic comedy and family entertainer. The film humorously presents situations from a director’s life in a relatable way, blending comedy with a love story and emotional family moments. Anudeep emphasizes that while the film is fun-filled, it is grounded in logic and real-life experiences.

Responding to comparisons with Jathi Ratnalu, he believes comedy must feel natural and rooted in relatable characters to connect with audiences. Though set in a film-industry backdrop, Funky is designed for common viewers.

Anudeep appears in a guest role but clarifies he has no plans to become a full-time actor, as his primary passion remains directing. While comedy is his strength, he aims to explore different genres. Along with humor, Funky offers emotional depth and a few surprises.

The film also features guest appearances by directors Harish Shankar and Kalyan Shankar, and producers Dil Raju and Naga Vamsi, woven naturally into the narrative. Addressing the mixed response to Prince, Anudeep says the team lacked time for script development then, but Funky benefited from thorough preparation.

Producer Naga Vamsi was the first to hear the story and immediately came on board. Trivikram watched the film during post-production and offered valuable feedback. Anudeep also credits producer S. Radha Krishna for his constant support. Veteran actor Naresh plays a key role, while Bheems Ceciroleo’s music is described as a major strength.
