The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation conducted a special encroachment removal drive on Saturday across Hyderabad, clearing a total of 283 encroachments from footpaths and road margins. The initiative was taken to improve pedestrian safety, reduce traffic congestion, and ensure smoother urban movement across the city.

The operation was carried out in coordination with traffic police and law and order police. Each zone identified major roads and deployed field staff from respective circles to execute the drive in a planned manner. Encroachments obstructing pedestrian pathways and service roads were removed during the exercise.

Senior officials, including the GHMC Commissioner, Chief City Planner, and zonal commissioners, monitored the drive. Deputy Commissioners, Town Planning staff, and other field personnel participated actively in the enforcement action. Key areas covered included Shamsabad, Charminar, Golconda, Khairatabad, and Secunderabad circles, where systematic clearance was undertaken.

Out of the 283 encroachments removed, 79 were permanent structures and 204 were temporary. Officials said the drive is part of a continuous effort to reclaim public spaces and ensure free movement for citizens.

Since April 2026, a total of 2,620 encroachments have been removed under similar special drives across GHMC limits. The corporation stated that enforcement will continue in the coming days to prevent re-encroachments. GHMC has also urged citizens and shopkeepers to avoid occupying footpaths and road edges.
