The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has intensified its sanitation efforts under a special mega drive, with over 5,641 metric tonnes of waste cleared to date.

The initiative, which began on 29 December 2025 and will run until 31 January, targets vulnerable garbage points, foot-over bridges, flyovers, parks, and other public spaces across the city. So far, sanitation teams have removed 4,243 metric tonnes of general waste and 1,398 metric tonnes of construction debris, marking a significant step toward cleaner streets and public areas.

GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan recently chaired a WebEx visual review meeting with Additional Commissioners, Zonal Commissioners, and senior officials from Engineering and other departments to assess the progress of the sanitation drive and other development projects. During the review, he stressed the need for intensified field inspections to ensure maximum effectiveness in the final days of the drive.

The Commissioner also highlighted the importance of public awareness campaigns, encouraging citizens to actively participate in maintaining cleanliness and supporting GHMC’s mission of transforming Greater Hyderabad into a model clean city. Zonal Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners continue to monitor field operations closely, ensuring that every ward contributes to the overall goal. The drive represents one of the most vigorous sanitation efforts in recent years, demonstrating GHMC’s commitment to civic hygiene and sustainable urban management.

With just days remaining, officials are pushing for maximum impact, aiming to ensure that Hyderabad emerges as a benchmark for urban cleanliness.
