The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is intensifying efforts to keep the city clean through a massive special sanitation drive across all 300 wards. Over the past 15 days, the drive has targeted public areas, vulnerable garbage points, foot overbridges, flyovers, parks, and other high-traffic locations.

During this period, GHMC teams have removed a total of 5,209 metric tonnes of waste, including 3,870 metric tonnes of general garbage and 1,339 metric tonnes of construction debris. Garbage-prone spots received special attention, with Saturday operations focusing on cleaning and beautification, including painting and organizing these areas. Residents of all ages, including children, youth, and senior citizens, participated in the drive, taking pledges to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings.

The sanitation drive was closely monitored at the field level by zonal commissioners and deputy commissioners, under the direction of the GHMC Commissioner. Officials say the initiative aims to foster public participation and promote a cleaner, healthier city.

Alongside the main drive, GHMC also conducted a two-day e-waste collection campaign across the city, collecting 88 metric tonnes of electronic waste, which was transported to authorized processing units for safe disposal.

The ongoing mega sanitation drive demonstrates GHMC’s commitment to urban cleanliness and environmental awareness, ensuring that Hyderabad’s public spaces remain hygienic and well-maintained for all residents.
