‘Govt considering ID cards for Joginis’

Minister for Transport  Ponnam Prabhakar said the government is positively considering the demand to accord special recognition to Joginis and provide them with official identity cards.

Speaking on the occasion of the Lal Darwaza Simhavahini Mahankali Bonalu celebrations on Monday, Ponnam Prabhakar assured that the government would extend all possible support to Joginis and take necessary measures to ensure that they do not face any difficulties in the future.

The Minister said the government was examining the proposal to issue identity cards to Joginis to provide them with official recognition. He also said the government had decided to consider their inclusion as co-option members in municipal bodies.

He further stated that better arrangements would be made for those serving the deity during the Lal Darwaza Bonalu celebrations through coordination among three government departments. Ponnam Prabhakar said he would discuss the proposal to accord official recognition to Joginis with the concerned Minister and take a final decision on the matter.
