HC hears Guntur death case

01-11-2026 12:00:00 AM

A two judge bench of the Telangana High Court will examine the territorial jurisdiction to deal with a writ plea of 2014 against the Government of Andhra Pradesh. The bench comprising Justice K. Lakshman and Justice K. Sujana, is hearing a writ petition filed by the father of the victim studying at Bashyam IIT Junior College in Guntur. Counsel for the petitioner pointed out that the college authorities failed to properly inform the parents about the circumstances leading to hospitalization of his daughter and did not communicate her death to them.

Counsel further contended that, although the parents lodged a complaint against the college authorities the following day, no proper investigation was conducted into the circumstances surrounding the death.

The petitioner sought transfer of the investigation in the case registered at Guntur Taluq Police Station to the Central Bureau of Investigation. Counsel for the respondents questioned the maintainability of the petition before the Telangana High Court, pointing out that the incident occurred in Andhra Pradesh. In response, counsel for the petitioner relied on judicial precedents to contend that the petition was maintainable. The bench deferred the matter for further hearing.
