HPS honors alumnus Prem Watsa, lays foundation stone for M. C. Watsa Block

The Hyderabad Public School (HPS), Begumpet, welcomed distinguished alumnus Prem Watsa, Chairman of Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited and a member of the HPS Class of 1965, during his visit to his alma mater on Saturday. The occasion also marked the foundation stone ceremony for the School’s new Junior School Block, which will be named after his father, M. C. Watsa, who served as HPS Principal from 1969 to 1972. The school, established in 1923, counts Prem Watsa among its distinguished alumni.

Prem Watsa said returning to HPS was always special and recalled the important role his school years played in shaping his life. He said having the new block named after his father made the occasion particularly meaningful for the family. HPS Society President Gusti J Noria said welcoming Prem Watsa was a matter of immense pride and noted that his journey from the school’s classrooms to global leadership reflected the values and spirit of HPS. He also acknowledged Nalini Watsa’s longstanding association with the institution.
