Hyderabad City Police, acting on credible information, apprehended and deported Obasi James Victor, a 38-year-old Nigerian national, to his home country to prevent him from engaging in activities harmful to national security. Obasi, a resident of New Delhi, had entered India on a tourist visa on 31 December 2011. He initially ran a cloth export business to Nigeria and later opened a restaurant in Delhi called “William African Restaurant.”

Over the years, Obasi overstayed in India after his visa and passport expired. During this period, he was reportedly involved in unlawful activities, including associating with drug peddlers and participating in drug trafficking to fund a lavish lifestyle. He was apprehended in the Tolichowki area of Hyderabad while acting suspiciously and failed to provide valid documents or a reasonable explanation for his stay.

Following his arrest, the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) coordinated with the FRRO Hyderabad and the Nigeria High Commission to obtain an Emergency Travel Document and an Exit Permit. Obasi was escorted by H-NEW officials from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport to Lagos, Nigeria, on 13 January 2026.

The H-NEW team, led by Inspector G.S. Daniel and SI C. Venkata Ramulu, highlighted the risks posed by foreigners overstaying on expired visas and engaging in criminal activities, particularly drug-related crimes. Citizens have been urged to stay vigilant, avoid substance abuse, and report any information on drug activities to the H-NEW helpline at 8712661601, as part of efforts to maintain a drug-free Hyderabad.
