The Hyderabad Press Club has unanimously resolved to prepare an action plan to address journalists’ long-pending issues, including housing, healthcare and pensions, and ensure access to basic facilities.
The club’s general body meeting was held at Somajiguda on Sunday under the chairmanship of president S. Vijay Kumar Reddy, with senior journalists and members attending. The gathering paid tributes to Press Club members who passed away during the past year. One of the key resolutions urged the State government to immediately allot land on lease to the Hyderabad Press Club. The meeting also resolved to work towards securing house sites for all eligible journalists.
To achieve these objectives, the executive committee approved a plan to coordinate with various journalists’ associations and unions and launch a joint action programme. The meeting called for the immediate issuance of health cards to all eligible journalists and demanded pensions for elderly journalists. It also unanimously resolved to provide immediate financial assistance of Rs 50,000 to the family of any deceased Press Club member.
The meeting was attended by General Secretary Ramesh Varikuppala, Vice-Presidents A. Rajesh and Aruna Attaluri, Joint Secretaries Chilukuri Hariprasad and Vardhilli Bapurao, Treasurer Ramesh Vytla, and executive committee members Mutyala Sattibabu, M. Ramadevi, Rachana Mudumbai, Vanam Nagaraju, N. Srinivas Reddy, Amit Battu, Ashok Dayyala, Rajeswari Kalyanam and Shankar Shiga.
Senior journalists Devulapalli Amar, R. Shailesh Reddy, Dilip Reddy, Ravi Kanth Reddy and Yusuf Babu were also present. On the occasion, the club’s governing body felicitated senior journalist and journalists’ leader Devulapalli Amar with a shawl in recognition of his presence at the gathering.
