India’s mission

24-02-2026 12:00:00 AM

India’s entry into Pax Silica strengthens its position in the global semiconductor supply chain. The partnership promotes secure sourcing of chips and critical minerals while reducing dependence on limited regions. For India, it complements the Semiconductor Mission, attracts investment, encourages technology transfer, and boosts manufacturing. Economically, it can generate skilled jobs, expand exports, enhance digital sovereignty, and accelerate India’s emergence as a major electronics and chip production hub.

New ventures

Two new business ventures have been launched recently in the city of Chennai and are expected to flourish by leaps and bounds in the near future. One provides the engineering feat of raising existing buildings by 3 to 5 feet from their foundations. The other builds temporary gates to prevent the rain floods from entering houses, buildings, and compounds.

The growth story

The most heartening sight from Bharat Mandapam was a housekeeping member chasing away semi-naked Congress workers, hitting them with his cleaning cloth, and then kicking one of them. This is a man who is not there for the technology. It tells you a lot about how the country is thinking and moving. Nobody came forward to shield those protesters. Nobody went and cheered them on or joined them. They were thrown out with utter disdain. But to me, the winner is that unnamed member of the housekeeping staff.

Sugar coating

After jumping on the DMK bandwagon, DMDK leader Premallatha Vijayakant has said that her family and MK Stalin’s family have had close ties. In fact, the marriage of Vijayakant and Premallatha was presided over by M. Karunanidhi at their wedding reception at Anna Arivalayam, she added emotionally. How come Premallatha did not recollect all these sentiments while sitting on the fence until a few days ago? Many of our politicians are diabetics, but, ironically, they cannot survive without sugar-coated words!

Wrong actions

The US Supreme Court’s ruling disallowed the unilateral powers of the president to impose sweeping tariffs on every country under the guise of exercising financial emergency powers. The imposition of tariffs is termed illegal by the federal court. While the ruling amused the nations affected by the tariffs, Trump says this decision of the court requires the US to make significant paybacks to importers, and that will be a mess. Well, Trump’s action to impose huge tariffs on nations was constitutionally wrong.

BSP to go solo

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati has declared that her party would fight the 2027 Uttar Pradesh polls alone without entering into alliances. Better sense should have prevailed upon the BSP chief because her party is neither here nor there. Even some lesser-known parties have made inroads into Mayawati’s vote bank. Despite keeping to herself of late, none can ignore Mayawati in UP politics. Politics is about perception, and people are here to judge their leaders by their approach and attitude more than anything else.
