Interstate drug peddling racket busted, three held

In a major operation against narcotics trafficking, the Commissioner’s Task Force, South-East Zone, in coordination with Bandlaguda Police, dismantled an interstate ganja-smuggling network. The team intercepted a transport vehicle carrying 908.41 kg of ganja, valued at Rs 2.7 crore, being transported from Malkangiri (Odisha) to Maharashtra via Hyderabad.

Arrested accused were identified as Mohammed Kaleem Uddin (32), heavy vehicle driver, Shaik Sohail (23), AC technician and Mohammed Afzal (25), technician, all residents of Amberpet, Hyderabad.

The accused, childhood friends, were working for Rahman, the main transporter, who remains absconding along with suppliers Jithu (Odisha), Suresh (Srikakulam) and receiver Mahesh (Maharashtra). They were promised Rs 3 to 5 lakh per trip to deliver ganja concealed beneath cashew shells in an Eicher vehicle. Acting on credible intelligence, police intercepted the vehicle near OS Palace Function Hall, Bandlaguda, seizing the contraband, four mobile phones, Rs 2,500 cash, and the vehicle.
