Justice Lisa Gill takes over as Chief Justice of AP High Court

Justice Lisa Gill was sworn in as a judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Friday in a ceremony held at the First Court Hall. The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur. Justice Gill, who has been transferred from the Punjab and Haryana High Court, assumed her responsibilities immediately following the formal swearing-in. With Chief Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur scheduled to retire on April 24, 2026, she is expected to be elevated as the next Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court-the first woman to hold the position.

A native of Chandigarh, Justice Lisa Gill completed her LLB and LLM at Punjab University. She enrolled as an advocate in 1990 and began practicing at the Punjab and Haryana High Court. She was elevated to the bench as a judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on March 31, 2014, where she served until her transfer to Andhra Pradesh. 

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by sitting judges of the High Court, Additional Solicitor General Challa Dhanunjay, Advocate General Dammalapati Srinivas, Advocates Association Vice President K.V. Raghu Kumar, Bar Council Chairman Dwarakanath Reddy, Public Prosecutor Lakshmi Narayana and senior advocates .
