The paddy procurement process in Telangana is progressing at an impressive pace this Vaana Kaalam (Kharif season(, reflecting both record harvests and efficient government arrangements. The State Government has set an ambitious target to procure 80 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of paddy through Civil Supplies, following the record-level production achieved this season.

In a major step to support farmers and ensure smooth procurement, the government has established 8,433 procurement centres across the state— the highest ever number set up for any season. These centres have greatly eased the process for farmers, enabling timely sales and reducing logistical challenges.

As of December 10, the Civil Supplies Department has successfully procured 51.86 LMT of paddy, amounting to a value of Rs 13,661 crore paid to farmers. This includes 26.37 LMT of coarse variety and 25.49 LMT of fine variety (Sannalu).

Continuing last year’s trend, the production of fine paddy varieties has seen a notable rise this season as well. The State Government’s incentive of Rs 500 bonus per quintal for fine paddy has encouraged more farmers to shift towards these varieties. So far, the government has disbursed Rs 314 crore towards this bonus, directly benefiting fine paddy growers.

The robust procurement mechanism, timely payments, and farmer-friendly incentives underline the our commitment to strengthening the agricultural sector and ensuring remunerative returns to Telangana’s farming community, as per senior officials of the agriculture department.
