KTR calls for holistic, long-term solutions to urban issues

Metro India News | Hyderabad : Former Telangana minister and BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao on Wednesday called for holistic, long-term policy intervention over "knee-jerk reactions" to address urban governance and municipal grievances in Indian cities. Speaking at ‘Sheheron Pe Charcha’—a cross-party summit organized by Janaagraha at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi—Rama Rao joined JMM MP Mahua Maji, YSRCP MP S. Niranjan Reddy, and Janaagraha CEO Srikanth Viswanathan for a panel discussion on improving urban livability.

Highlighting urban decentralisation strategies implemented during the BRS administration, KT Rama Rao cited the establishment of medical colleges in every district headquarters and the expansion of IT Towers into Tier-II cities as key steps that successfully reduced pressure on Hyderabad.

On public transit and infrastructure, Rama Rao emphasised that expanding high-speed rail networks would significantly ease the burden on major metropolises over the next decade. He further identified access to capital as a primary hurdle for municipal authorities, urging policymakers to adopt innovative financial and inclusive governance models.

Following the session, the BRS leader visited the 'Bharat AI Experiential Center' hosted at the venue to review artificial intelligence applications designed for public service delivery and urban administration.
